A Kite in the Sky
Phase 7 · Book 4Focus igh and y as a vowel

Henry and Lily try to fly a kite. The sky is bright above the meadow. Dad holds the kite while Henry grips the string. “Let it rise!” says Lily.

The kite lifts, then spins to the right. It drops onto the grass. “Why won’t it fly?” asks Henry. Lily looks at its short tail.

“Shall we try a longer tail?” asks Dad. Lily ties on a light strip of cloth. Henry holds the string tightly. They are ready to try again.

Dad lifts the kite into the breeze. Henry lets out a little string. The long tail hangs straight. The kite climbs high into the sky.

Henry gives Lily a turn with the string. The kite floats above them. “I’m happy it can fly,” she says. Dad stays beside them as they watch it.
