A Light in the Tent
School Readers · Level 10
Oliver, Eva and George are camping with Dad. They set up a tent by the trees. Dad makes supper at the picnic table. The friends put their bags in the tent.

It gets dark. Eva walks past the tent. “I can see a light,” she says. “But no one is inside.” Oliver and George come to look.

They unzip the door. A small light shines near George’s shoes. “Is it a glow-worm?” asks Oliver. Eva looks closer. “I do not think so.”

George lifts one shoe. His torch is tucked behind it. The torch is on. “I left it there,” he says. “I forgot to turn it off.”

George switches off the torch. The tent is dark again. Dad calls them to supper. “We found the light,” says Eva. “It was George’s torch.”

After supper, George picks up the torch. He turns it on for the walk to the tent. “No mystery this time,” says Oliver. The friends laugh and say goodnight to Dad.
