Agnes and the Park Kite
School Readers · Level 8
Agnes brings a red kite to the park. Constance runs over to see the long blue tail.

“Let us fly it in this clear space,” says Mum. Agnes holds the string while Mum lifts the kite.

The kite rises, but its tail twists around the string. It wobbles and drops gently onto the grass.

“We need to straighten the tail,” says Constance. They lay the kite on a bench to look at it.

Agnes holds the kite still while Constance untwists the tail. Mum checks that the string can move freely.

A fresh breeze blows across the field. This time the red kite climbs high and stays steady.

Agnes passes the spool to Constance so she can try. They watch the blue tail dance against the clouds.

Before they leave, they wind up the string together. “Now we know what to check next time,” says Agnes.
