Alice Visits the Market
Shared Reading Books · Social Science · Ages 3–4
Alice goes to the market with Grandad. They take a bag and a little list.

“We need apples,” says Grandad. Alice sees red ones on a stall. “Over here!”

The seller says hello. “Which apples would you like?” Alice points to the red ones.

Grandad asks for three apples. The seller puts them in the bag. Alice counts with him.

“Now carrots,” says Grandad. They look at the list. Alice finds a bunch.

Grandad pays the seller. “Thank you,” he says. Alice holds the light bag with him.

“The seller helped us get our food,” says Grandad. “And I helped find it!” says Alice.

At home, they wash an apple. Grandad cuts it to share. “Market day tastes good!” says Alice.
