Annie’s Red Bucket
Shared Reading Books · Social Stories · Ages 3–4
Annie wants the red bucket in the sandpit. Sam is filling it with sand. Annie looks at the bucket, then at Sam.

“My turn?” she asks. “When my tower is done,” Sam says. Waiting feels hard. Annie presses her hands into the cool sand.

Ms Wood comes beside her. “You want that bucket,” she says. “You can use this bowl with me, or stay and watch.” Annie chooses the bowl.

They fill the blue bowl. Sam pats his sand down. Annie looks up to see what he is doing. Her hands have something to do while she waits.

Sam lifts the bucket. His tower stands tall. He puts the empty bucket beside Annie. “Your turn now.” She gives him a small smile.

Annie fills the red bucket. Waiting was hard, and she had help. Now she makes a tower beside Sam’s. There is room for both in the sand.
