Bernard’s Quiet Recording
School Readers · Level 7
Bernard and Elsie make a recording for their class. Bernard sets a tablet on the desk and reads his first line.

A trolley rattles past the open door. Its wheels make a loud sound on the hard floor.

Elsie plays the recording back. They can hear the trolley, but some of Bernard’s words are hard to hear.

“Let us find a quieter place,” says Elsie. Their teacher shows them a small room away from the corridor.

There is a soft carpet and a closed door. Bernard puts the tablet on a steady table.

Elsie waits until they are ready. She starts a new recording, and Bernard reads the same line again.

They listen closely to the new recording. This time, Bernard’s voice is clear from start to finish.

Bernard smiles and reads the next line. They have found a place where the class can hear his story.
