Bernard’s Water Channel
School Readers · Level 6
Bernard and Lawrence play at the water table. They make a channel with plastic pieces.

Bernard pours water into the top end. It runs down, then spills onto the table.

Lawrence sees a space between two pieces. The water cannot cross that gap.

They push the pieces closer together. Their teacher helps them hold the channel steady.

Bernard pours a little water in again. This time it runs into a cup at the end.

Lawrence puts a toy boat at the top. It moves with the water and stops at a bend.

The boys turn one piece to make the bend wider. Now the boat can float past it.

They watch the boat reach the cup. Bernard and Lawrence have made a working channel.
