Cyril’s Camping Sign
School Readers · Level 8
Cyril and Roland help Dad set up a tent in the woods. They make a picture sign to show where their campsite is.

Cyril draws a blue tent on a piece of card. Roland ties the sign to a wooden peg beside the path.

A gust of wind turns the sign round. Now visitors can only see the plain back of the card.

“Our picture is facing the wrong way,” says Cyril. They turn it back, but the wind moves it again.

Dad shows them how to tie a second string at the bottom. Roland holds the sign while Cyril fastens the string.

The sign stays facing the path when the next gust comes. The boys step back to check that the picture is easy to see.

Their cousins arrive and follow the path towards the blue tent. “We spotted your sign,” says one of them.

When it is time to go, Cyril unties both strings. They pack the sign with the tent and leave the campsite tidy.
