Dennis’s Library Cart
School Readers · Level 7
Dennis and Faye return books to the library shelves. Dennis pushes a low cart along the narrow aisle.

A thick book sticks out from the side. It touches a shelf, and Dennis stops the cart at once.

Faye lifts the book and sets it on top. Now the pile is tall and leans to one side.

“Let us make two low piles,” says Dennis. They take the books off and sort them on a nearby table.

They put the largest books flat at the bottom. Smaller books fit neatly on top without hanging over the edge.

Faye checks both sides of the cart. No book sticks out, and both low piles stand straight.

Dennis pushes slowly between the shelves. This time, the cart passes through without touching anything.

At the right shelf, they stop and put the books away. Two small piles have made the job much easier.
