Ernest’s Rock Pool

Ernest and Percy visit the shore with Dad. They look into a shallow rock pool.

Ernest sees a little shell beside a stone. He thinks it is empty.

Then the shell moves across the sand. “Did you see that?” he asks Percy.

Percy points to legs under the shell. A small crab is carrying its home.

Ernest leans closer, but his shadow covers the pool. The crab stops moving.

Dad asks the boys to step back. They watch quietly from the dry rocks.

Soon the crab comes out again. It walks slowly towards a patch of seaweed.

The boys leave the crab in its pool. Ernest has found a home that can move.
