George’s Box Stage
Shared Reading Books · Arts · Ages 3–4
George puts an empty box on the rug. “This is my little stage,” he says. Dad brings a blue cloth for the back.

George drapes the cloth across the box. It covers the whole opening. “Nobody can see my show,” he says, peeping underneath.

Dad holds one corner while George folds the cloth back. Now there is an open space. George looks through from the front.

He brings a wooden spoon. “This is Captain Spoon,” he says. The spoon walks onto the stage with a little bob.

Captain Spoon is looking for a boat. George moves him behind the cloth. His voice becomes quiet. Dad leans closer to listen.

George brings the spoon out again. “Here I am!” he says clearly. He puts a small empty box beside it. “My boat!”

Dad claps softly. George makes Captain Spoon sail across the stage in the little box. Then he gives the spoon a bow.

“Would you like a turn?” George asks. Dad takes the spoon. George sits on the rug, ready to watch a new little show.
