George’s Rain Catcher
Shared Reading Books · Science · Ages 3–4Written by Emily Parker · Illustrated by Oliver Bennett

Grandad puts an empty pot outside. George looks at the grey sky. “Will we catch some rain?”

They go inside to watch. Tap, tap, tap! Raindrops land in the pot.

George looks through the window. There is a little water now. “The pot was empty!”

The rain keeps falling. More drops land in the pot. The water gets deeper.

Then the rain stops. Grandad brings the pot to the doorway. George looks inside.

“Where did this water come from?” asks Grandad. “The rain!” says George. He points to the pot.

They look at the wet garden. Drops shine on the leaves. Puddles sit on the path.

Grandad empties the pot safely. George looks at the sky again. “Next time, we can watch for rain!”
