Gloria’s Seed Packets
School Readers · Level 7
Gloria and Miles help in the school greenhouse. Paper packets of bean seeds lie on the wooden bench.

Gloria lifts one open packet. A few round seeds roll across the smooth wood towards the edge.

Miles cups his hand at the edge. He catches the seeds before they drop onto the floor below.

“We need a place to keep them together,” says Gloria. She brings a shallow blue tray from the shelf.

She lays the packets flat inside it. Miles tips the loose seeds into one corner of the tray.

The raised sides stop the seeds rolling away. Gloria can take one at a time without losing the others.

Miles makes a small hole in each pot of soil. Gloria drops a bean into every hole and covers it.

They fold the packets shut and leave them in the tray. Tomorrow, the remaining seeds will be easy to find.
