Harriet’s Bus Stop Plan
Shared Reading Books · Social Stories · Ages 13–18
Harriet and Anna are practising the bus journey from school to the leisure centre. Harriet recognises the bakery beside their usual stop. Today, orange barriers close the pavement in front of it. A temporary sign points away from the shelter, and people are waiting farther along the road.

Harriet stops before the barriers. The journey in her notes does not look like this. She is worried that walking away will make them miss the bus. Anna stands beside her, leaving room for other people to pass. They do not need to cross the road to investigate.

Together they check the official notice and the transport service’s update. The replacement stop is on the same side of the road, beyond the bakery. They compare this information with the surroundings before moving. They do not follow an unknown person’s suggestion.

Harriet asks Anna to walk with her to the replacement stop. There, they check the route number on the timetable. When the bus arrives, Harriet asks the driver whether it goes to the leisure centre. Anna stays close enough to help if the answer is unclear.

They sit down and check their planned place to get off. Harriet adds the changed stop to her journey notes when the bus is still. Anna explains that they will check again next time; temporary arrangements can change. Their backup plan includes contacting a trusted adult if they cannot confirm the route.

Harriet feels more settled as the familiar leisure centre comes into view. The change was real, and her worry made sense. She did not have to solve it alone or hurry into a guess. Checking reliable information helped them continue the journey together.
