Harry’s Tricky Zip
Shared Reading Books · Social Stories · Ages 3–4
Harry wants to go outside. He puts on his coat. One arm goes in, then the other. The zip will not join at the bottom.

He pulls the two sides. They come apart again. Harry feels cross. He sits on the bench with his coat open. Rose waits nearby.

Mrs Lake comes over. “Would you like help?” she asks. Harry can say yes, nod or point. He points to the bottom of the zip.

Mrs Lake holds the coat steady. Harry watches her join the little pieces. “Would you like to pull?” she asks. Harry takes the zip tab.

Up goes the zip. It stops near his chin. Mrs Lake helps keep the cloth clear. Harry pulls once more, slowly this time.

Outside, Rose shows him a puddle. Harry feels ready to play. He fastened part of the zip himself, and asking for help made the tricky part easier.
