Henry’s Leaf Cart
Shared Reading Books · Technology · Ages 3–4
Henry is helping Grandad collect fallen leaves. He puts a few in his little cart. “I will take them to the leaf pile,” he says.

He holds the short handle and pulls. The cart moves, then stops with a bump. Henry looks back. “It will not roll,” he says.

Grandad kneels beside the cart. Henry points to a wheel. A small twig is caught beside it. “That is in the way.”

Henry lets go of the handle. They tip the leaves out. Grandad lifts the empty cart safely onto its side. They look together. The other wheels can turn.

Grandad takes out the twig. He keeps his fingers clear and turns the stuck wheel slowly. Now it moves too. Henry watches closely.

They put the cart back on the path. Henry loads the leaves again. Grandad steps beside him. “Shall we try?” he asks.

Henry pulls the handle. All the wheels roll along the clear path. He reaches the leaf pile without a bump. “It goes again!”

They tip out the leaves together. Henry checks the path before his next trip. “No twigs here,” he says. His cart is ready for another load.
