Henry’s Puppet Hello
Shared Reading Books · Arts · Ages 3–4
Henry finds a green puppet in the basket. He puts his hand inside. “Hello,” he whispers. His friend cannot hear him.

Henry holds the puppet low by his knees. “It is shy,” he says. Mrs Bell sits on the rug beside him.

“Where could it look?” she asks. Henry lifts the puppet a little. Its soft face peeps over his arm. His friend leans closer.

Henry tries again. “Hello. My name is Moss.” This time the voice is clear. His friend waves. “Hello, Moss.”

Moss wants a seat. Henry makes the puppet look at the rug, then at a cushion. “Is this one free?” he asks.

His friend pats the cushion. Henry puts Moss on it. Then Moss slips sideways. Henry catches the puppet and makes it sigh.

“Too sleepy to sit,” says Moss. Henry’s friend laughs gently. “You can lie down.” Henry lays the puppet on the cushion.

Moss gives one last wave. Henry takes his hand out. “He will say hello again tomorrow,” he says, returning the puppet to its basket.
