Jack’s Melting Ice
Shared Reading Books · Science · Ages 3–4Written by Emily Parker · Illustrated by Oliver Bennett

Aunt Rose puts ice in a bowl. Jack looks at the little cube. “It is hard!” he says.

The room is warm. They leave the ice in the bowl. “Let’s watch,” says Aunt Rose.

Soon, there is a little water. Jack points to it. “The ice is wet!”

The ice gets smaller. The puddle gets bigger. They look again.

“Where is the ice going?” asks Jack. “It is melting,” says Aunt Rose. “It is changing into water.”

They wait a little longer. One tiny bit of ice is left. Jack watches closely.

Now there is no hard ice. There is water in the bowl. “It did not all go away!” says Jack.

Aunt Rose lifts the bowl. Jack points to the water. “That was our ice!”
