Jake’s Fishing Line

Jake and Kate fish with Dad. Their boat floats on the lake. They all wear life jackets. Jake lifts his rod.

His line will not slide. It has a knot by the reel. Jake gives it a tug. The knot pulls tight.

“Let’s take our time,” says Dad. He puts the rod down. Kate holds the reel still. Dad helps Jake loosen the knot.

Jake guides the line through the small loop. The knot comes free. “Now it can slide!” says Kate. Dad checks the line before they fish again.

Jake drops his line into the lake. Kate sits beside him. They watch the floats and wait. “This is a fine day,” says Jake.
