Lavinia’s Flower Stall
School Readers · Level 7
Lavinia and Matilda make a flower stall in Grandma’s garden. They put yellow and purple flowers on a little table.

Matilda draws pictures to show which flowers are in each pot. Lavinia places the labels beside the plants.

Grandma waters a pot, and a label gets wet. Its purple picture begins to smudge.

Lavinia cannot tell which pot the label belongs to. She looks at the flowers instead of guessing.

Matilda draws a new purple flower on dry paper. Grandma brings some wooden clips for their labels.

They clip each picture to the side of its pot. The paper stays away from the water below.

Grandma visits their pretend stall and chooses yellow flowers. Lavinia finds the right pot using its picture.

The girls put the pots back in the garden when play ends. They keep the dry labels for their next flower game.
