Lucy’s Dry Teddy
Shared Reading Books · Technology · Ages 3–4
Lucy wants to take Teddy into the garden. Rain dots the window. “Teddy needs a dry place,” she says. Dad finds an empty box.

Lucy puts Teddy inside. She lays a sheet of paper over the top. “A roof!” she says. They take the box to the covered porch.

Dad drops a little water onto the paper. A wet patch spreads. The paper droops. “That roof is getting soggy,” says Lucy.

They lift off the wet paper. Teddy is still dry inside. Lucy feels a piece of smooth, reusable waterproof cloth. “Can we try this?”

Dad helps stretch the cloth over the box. Lucy fastens it with big clips. The cover slopes down at the sides. Teddy peeps out.

They test the new roof with a little water. Drops roll down the cloth. Lucy looks inside. “No wet patch!” she says.

Dad tips the water off into a tray. Lucy checks Teddy with her hand. His soft fur feels dry. “This cover works,” she says.

The rain stops. Lucy carries Teddy to the garden bench. His little shelter comes too. “You can watch me plant,” she tells him.
