Lucy’s New Colour
Shared Reading Books · Science · Ages 3–4Written by Emily Parker · Illustrated by Oliver Bennett

Lucy wants to paint a leaf. Nana brings blue paint and yellow paint. “But I need green!” says Lucy.

Nana puts a little blue on the palette. Lucy points to the yellow. “Can we try that too?”

Nana adds a little yellow. The two colours sit side by side. Lucy takes her brush.

Round and round goes the brush. The colours begin to mix. “Look!” says Lucy.

Now there is green paint. “A new colour!” says Lucy. Nana smiles beside her.

Lucy paints a green leaf. Then she paints another one. Her paper has a little garden.

They mix a little more. Blue and yellow make green again. Lucy looks at both patches.

“We made the colour I needed!” Lucy puts down her brush. Nana helps her clean up.
