Luke’s Kayak Ride

Luke and June paddle with Mum. They share a wide kayak. All three wear life jackets. They glide past the stones by the shore.

Luke shifts on his seat. The cushion has slipped. “Can we stop?” he asks. Mum points to a quiet cove.

They paddle into the cove. Mum holds the kayak by the rope. Luke steps onto the shore with her help. June waits in the kayak.

Mum helps Luke fix the seat cushion. “I can use this strap,” she says. She checks that it stays in place. Luke climbs back in with Mum’s help.

Now Luke sits comfortably. June dips her paddle. Mum guides them out of the cove. “Let’s go home this way,” says Luke.
