Mabel’s Night Walk Light
School Readers · Level 6
Mabel and Owen join a short night walk. Their teacher leads them along the wide park path.

Mabel points her torch at the tall trees. The pale light shows rough bark and dark leaves.

Then she looks down at her feet. The path in front of her is too dark to see clearly.

“Stop here,” says Ms Lake. The group waits together while Mabel lowers the bright torch beam.

Now the light falls on the ground ahead. Mabel can see a small stick lying across the path.

Owen points his torch beside hers. Two pools of light show the clear space around the stick.

They walk slowly past it with Ms Lake. A low wooden bridge comes into view ahead.

Mabel keeps her light on the path as they cross. She can enjoy the night and see where she is going.
