Margaret’s Garden Race
School Readers · Level 6
Margaret and Nancy set up a race in the garden. Mum puts beanbags by the start.

They must carry a beanbag on a spoon. Margaret picks a big spoon for her turn.

She walks fast, but the beanbag falls off. Nancy stops beside her and waits.

“Try small steps,” says Nancy. Margaret puts the beanbag back on her spoon.

This time she watches the spoon as she walks. The beanbag stays in place.

A gust of wind moves the finish flag. Mum holds it while the girls come closer.

Margaret reaches the flag without dropping her beanbag. Nancy gives her a cheer.

Now Nancy takes a turn, and Margaret waits. They both want to try the race again.
