Martin’s Kite Rescue
School Readers · Level 8
Martin and Iris fly an orange kite on the school field. It rises above the grass while their teacher watches nearby.

Then the wind drops, and the kite sinks towards a low bush. Its short tail catches on a soft leafy branch.

Martin pulls the line once, but the tail stays caught. He stops before the thin paper of the kite can tear.

Iris walks closer with the teacher to look. The kite is low enough to reach from the grass, without climbing anything.

The teacher holds the kite still while Iris lifts the tail off the branch. Martin lets the line go loose in his hands.

They lay the kite flat on the grass to check it. The tail is loose again, and there are no holes in the paper.

Martin and Iris move farther into the open field. They wait for a light breeze, away from the bush at the edge.

The orange kite rises once more. This time, Martin gives it room to move while Iris watches its bright tail against the sky.
