Michael’s Box Train
School Readers · Level 9
Michael and Paul build a pretend train from two big boxes. They put it on the classroom floor beside their station.

Paul tapes blue paper wheels along the sides. Michael makes a ticket for each passenger joining their game.

As Michael steps into the front box, one paper wheel falls off. Paul sticks it back, but the thin tape will not hold it.

“Our train has lost a wheel,” says Michael with a grin. Their teacher brings stronger tape and asks where it should go.

Paul holds the wheel flat against the side of the box. Michael tapes its top and bottom, keeping his fingers clear.

They gently touch the wheel to check that it is secure. It stays in place when Michael climbs into the train again.

Paul becomes the driver, and Michael calls the station names. Their friends bring toy bags and pretend to travel to the seaside.

At the last stop, everyone helps tidy the classroom. Michael saves the tickets so their train can make another journey tomorrow.
