Oliver’s Rainy Plan
Shared Reading Books · Social Stories · Ages 3–4
Oliver has a plan. He will sail his toy boat in the garden tray. Beth finds another boat. Dad opens the door, and rain splashes on the step.

The wind blows rain under the porch. Dad says they need a different place to play. Oliver frowns. “But I wanted the garden,” he says.

“You did,” Dad says. They watch the rain together. Oliver can keep his boat nearby while they think. He does not have to feel happy about the change.

Beth finds a big box inside. “A harbour?” she asks. Dad offers some blue cloth. Oliver looks at the box, then brings his boat over.

They spread the cloth on the floor and put the box beside it. Oliver makes a little ramp. His boat can travel into the harbour without any water.

The rain still taps outside. Oliver feels interested in the new game. The garden plan can wait for another day. For now, his boat has somewhere else to go.
