Olive’s Ferry Photo
School Readers · Level 8
Olive and Cyril sit by a window on the ferry. Across the blue water, a tall lighthouse stands on a low hill.

Olive lifts her camera to take a photo. On the screen, she sees the lighthouse and a pale shape across it.

“That looks like my face,” says Cyril. The cabin window reflects his face over the view of the hill outside.

Olive changes her seat, but another reflection appears. This time, a bright cabin lamp seems to float above the water.

Ms Lane takes them to the enclosed viewing deck. They stand well back from the railing, with the lighthouse in front of them.

There is no glass between Olive and the hill now. She holds the camera steady, with its strap around her wrist.

She takes a new photo and checks it with Cyril. The white tower is clear against the hill, with no face over it.

They thank Ms Lane and go back to their seats. Olive has a photo of the lighthouse, and Cyril has a funny story.
