Oscar’s Garden Edge: Activities
Shared Reading · Year 4. An adult reads the questions and clues aloud. Children can talk, point, sign or choose an answer. For Jumbled Words, show the matching vocabulary word and build it together; children do not need to read independently.

Tell the story
Retell the story in order. Explain the problem, the method the characters tried and the evidence that their solution worked. Draw a 4-by-3 rectangle on squared paper. Trace its four outside sides and calculate 14 units. Contrast that boundary with the 12 squares inside. Compare a 12-unit length with the 14-unit perimeter.
