Rosie’s Windy Day
Shared Reading Books · Science · Ages 3–4Written by Emily Parker · Illustrated by Oliver Bennett

Grandma holds a short red ribbon. Rosie watches it hang down. “Why is it still?”

They step out from the garden wall. A little wind blows. The ribbon begins to lift.

“I cannot see the wind,” says Rosie. “Look at the ribbon,” says Grandma. “Moving air can move it.”

The wind blows again. The ribbon flaps. Rosie laughs. “Up you go!”

Leaves move on the tree too. Rosie points to them. “The air is moving those!”

The breeze slows. The ribbon drops. The leaves are nearly still.

They watch and wait. A little gust comes. The ribbon lifts again.

“I cannot see the air,” says Rosie. “But I can see what it moves!” Grandma holds the ribbon while they watch.
