Ruby’s Special Box
Shared Reading Books · Social Science · Ages 3–4
Ruby has a little box. “What shall I keep?” she asks Nana.

She finds a smooth stone. “We found this at the beach.” Ruby rubs it with her thumb.

Here is a red ribbon. “It was on our picnic basket!” Nana remembers the windy day.

Ruby finds a photo. There is Nana at the picnic. “And there I am too!”

She puts the stone, ribbon and photo in the box. “These are my special things.”

“May I look?” asks Nana. “Yes,” says Ruby. She lifts the lid.

Ruby tells Nana about the beach. Nana tells Ruby about the picnic. The little things bring back big memories.

Ruby closes her box. “I can keep my stories here.” Nana smiles. “You can tell them too.”
