The Blue Trail Clue
Phase 7 · Book 5Focus ue and ew; vowel-team review

Sue and Andrew play a trail game with Mum. They follow blue ribbons through the trees. Each ribbon marks a clue. The next clue should be by a green bench.

They reach two green benches. Sue looks under the first one. There is no clue. “Which bench do we need?” asks Andrew.

Andrew finds a few scraps of paper. They look at each piece. “They’re from a picnic,” says Mum. “These are not our clues.”

Sue rereads their last clue. “Look for the bench with a blue ribbon.” Andrew sees one on the other bench. There is a new clue tucked beneath the bench.

The new clue leads to a box by the oak tree. Inside are blue beads, string and glue. They make bracelets at a picnic table with Mum. “The clues led us here!” says Sue.

They lay their blue bracelets in a tray. Mum takes a photo to show Dad. “We solved the trail clues,” says Andrew. “And found a new way to play!” says Sue.
