Jack and Rose built castles on the beach with Mum. Jack wanted the tallest tower. Rose wanted the widest wall. “Let’s try both,” said Mum.

Jack piled the sand higher. His tower grew taller, then tipped. Rose’s first wall was thin. She made a wider base to help it stand.

They built a stronger castle together. Jack carried the wet sand. Rose patted it flat. “It is our biggest castle!” said Jack. Then a small wave reached its edge.

The wave washed away one wall. Jack and Rose stopped and looked at the broken castle. “We tried hard,” said Rose. Mum smiled. “What could we change?”

They moved farther up the beach. Jack planned a lower tower. Rose carried sand for a thicker wall. Together, they repaired their castle.

Jack and Rose admired the finished castle. Its tower was shorter, but its wall was stronger. Mum took a picture before they left. “Our best castle is the one we built together,” said Rose.
