Phase 10 · Book 4Focus longer vowel-team words and related word families

Helen and George follow a seaside puzzle trail with Dad. A lighthouse stands beyond the harbour. George carries a notebook. Helen keeps the first clue in her raincoat pocket.

A shower surprises them. They wait in a shelter until it stops. Helen takes out the clue. The wet paper has become difficult to read.

“We drew the clue in my notebook,” says George. His drawing shows a lighthouse and a gate. “Your drawing has saved our game!” says Helen. Dad helps them read the harbour map.

They walk along the safe path to the lighthouse garden. Helen finds a painted gate. Beside it is a painting of a yellow boat. Under the boat picture is the next clue.

It shows a picnic basket by a wooden seat. They find the seat beneath a tree. Dad’s friend waves from beside a basket. “Welcome, lighthouse explorers!” she says.

They share a seaside picnic in the sunshine. George draws the yellow boat in his notebook. Helen adds a picture of the rainy shelter. “Our notebook tells the whole adventure now,” she says.
