The Locked Shed
School Readers · Level 11
Peter and Lily are helping in the school garden. They need a rake from the shed. Peter pulls the door, but it will not open. “The shed is locked,” he says.

Lily looks on the shelf beside the door. “The key is usually here,” she says. Today the shelf is empty. They look under it, but there is no key.

“We should ask Mr Wood,” says Peter. Mr Wood is planting flowers nearby. “The key is on its hook,” he says. “I moved it so it would not fall off the shelf.”

Lily looks beside the window. A small key hangs from a hook. “There it is!” she says. Peter takes the key and opens the shed. They find the rake inside.

The friends rake the leaves into a pile. When they finish, they put the rake back. Peter locks the door. Lily hangs the key on the hook beside the window.

“Now we know where to look,” says Peter. Lily points to the hook. “And we know where to put it back.” Mr Wood smiles at their tidy garden. “Thank you both,” he says.
