The Lost Coin

Roy and Joy play pirates on the beach. They have a toy boat and a gold toy coin. They build a sand island near Dad. Joy puts the coin beside the boat.
A gull calls overhead. Roy points up at it. When they look down, the coin is gone. “Our treasure!” says Joy.
They look beside the boat. They look in the bucket. They look in Roy’s empty shoe. “No coin,” says Roy. “Where did it go?”
Joy notices a mark in the sand. It leads down the side of their island. “Perhaps it rolled,” she says. They follow the mark to a pile of shells.
Roy lifts one empty shell. The toy coin is tucked underneath. “It rolled into a hiding place!” says Joy. Dad brings a small tin for their treasure.
They put the coin safely in the tin. Now their toy pirates have a treasure chest. Roy draws a map to the shell pile. “This time, we know where the treasure is!”
