The Lost Lunchbox

Matthew and Zoe eat lunch by the school field. Matthew has a green lunchbox. Zoe puts her bag beside the bench. They watch a game while they eat.

When lunch is over, Matthew cannot find his lunchbox. “It was here a moment ago,” he says. He looks on the bench. Zoe looks under it, but the box is not there.

Matthew checks inside his backpack. He finds a book and a jumper, but no lunchbox. Zoe looks at the ground beside the bench. “I can see a green corner,” she says.

They move Zoe’s bag away from the bench. The lunchbox is behind it. “My bag hid it,” says Zoe. Matthew picks up the box and closes its lid.

Matthew puts the lunchbox in his backpack. Zoe moves her bag onto the bench. “Next time, I will pack it away first,” says Matthew. “Before we watch the game,” says Zoe.

They walk back to class together. Matthew pats his backpack. “My lunchbox is coming too,” he says. Zoe laughs. “It will be ready for tomorrow’s lunch.”
