The Missing Football

It is lunch time at school. Ben has a football. “Let’s have a game,” he says. He puts the ball by a bench.

Ella and Max put their bags on the bench. Ben looks down. The ball is gone! “Where is our ball?” he asks.

Ben looks under the bench. Ella looks behind it. Max looks in the grass. They cannot find the ball.

Max sees wet tracks on the ground. “A cart came past,” he says. “Let’s ask Mr Hill.” They follow the tracks.

Mr Hill has a cart. There are boxes on top. “Have you seen our ball?” asks Ben. “Let’s look,” says Mr Hill.

Ella looks under the boxes. “I can see it!” she says. The ball is on the cart. “I found it by the bench,” says Mr Hill.

Mr Hill gets the ball. He gives it to Ben. “Thanks!” says Ben. “Now we can play.”

Ben kicks the ball to Ella. Max runs to join them. “That ball went for a ride!” he says. They all laugh.
