The Museum Trail
School Readers · Level 13
Julia and Martin visit a museum with their school group. They follow a trail card to find three objects. First they find an old camera, then a wooden toy. Their last clue shows a pair of boots.

Martin leads the way to a display of clothes. There are hats and coats, but no boots. Julia reads the clue again. “It says these boots helped someone do a job,” she says.

They look in a case of sports clothes. Martin finds running shoes, but they are not the boots in the picture. Julia notices that the pictured boots have thick soles. “What job needs boots like those?” she asks.

A museum helper points them towards a mining display. They walk there with their teacher. In a glass case, they see a miner’s boots beside a lamp. The boots match the picture on their card.

Julia draws the boots while Martin reads about the miner. The thick soles helped protect the miner’s feet. “The clue was about work, not just clothes,” says Martin. They finish the trail together.

At school, they tell the class about their search. “We looked in two places before we found them,” says Julia. “But looking closely helped us find the right place.” Martin keeps their finished card in his folder.
