The Note by the Waterfall
Phase 6 · Book 3Focus split-digraph review and short/long vowels

Rose and Mike play a trail game with Mum. They stop on a wide path by a waterfall. Rose has a note with their next clue. A fine mist drifts onto the paper.

Rose looks at the note. The ink has run. “Is that a tree or a gate?” she asks. Mike cannot tell.

Mike wipes the note with his cap. The paper tears. “It is not clear,” he says. Mum opens her bag.

“I have a spare note,” says Mum. She takes it from a clear tube. They read it together. “Find the pine tree by the gate.”

They follow the path away from the mist. There is the pine tree by the gate! Rose puts the dry note back in its tube. “Now we can finish our game.”
