Violet’s Colour Path
Shared Reading Books · Arts · Ages 3–4
Violet paints a yellow path across her paper. “It goes to a garden,” she says. Mum sits nearby with the water pot.

Violet wants a green garden. She looks at the pots. There is yellow, red and blue. “No green today,” she says.

Mum offers a clean mixing tray. Violet puts a little yellow on it. Then she adds a little blue with a clean brush.

She moves the colours together. A green patch appears. “There it is!” she says. She paints grass beside her yellow path.

Violet adds more blue to the tray. The green becomes darker. She looks at it, then at the pale grass on her picture.

“This can be a bush,” she says. She makes a dark shape at the end of the path. It leaves room for the grass.

Mum holds up the picture when the paint is dry. Violet follows the yellow path with her eyes. It leads past the grass to the bush.

“I made two greens,” she says. She points to the pale grass and the dark bush. Both belong in her painted garden.
