Wendy’s Beach Café
School Readers · Level 10
Wendy and Deborah open a pretend café beside the dunes. They arrange empty cups and wooden biscuits on a low table. Dad is their first customer.

Wendy takes his order for a drink and two biscuits. Deborah puts the pretend food on a red tray and carefully carries it across the sand.

A cup slides towards the edge because the tray is tilted. Deborah stops walking and holds it flat. Nothing falls onto the ground.

“It is hard to carry everything at once,” she says. Dad suggests sharing the job, so Wendy brings a blue tray from beside their table.

The girls put the cups on one tray and the biscuits on the other. Each girl carries a lighter tray. They hold it level with both hands as they walk.

Dad enjoys his pretend snack. He asks where the café will deliver next. Wendy points to a picnic rug. Her little sister is waiting there with a toy bear.

Deborah takes the next order while Wendy prepares the cups. Then they swap jobs for another turn. They both find it easier to work together.

When the game ends, they pack the cups, trays and wooden food. “Our café team is ready for another day,” says Wendy. She checks that the beach is tidy.
