Winifred’s Shadow Rabbit
School Readers · Level 7
Winifred and Gwendolyn make a shadow show in the garden. Mum sets a battery lamp behind a white screen.

Winifred holds a paper rabbit in front of the light. A small rabbit shadow appears on the screen.

Gwendolyn sits down to watch, but the shadow is tiny. She cannot see its long ears very well.

“Can we make it bigger?” asks Winifred. Mum asks her to try moving the rabbit slowly.

Winifred moves the paper rabbit closer to the lamp. Its shadow grows larger on the screen.

She stops when the ears are easy to see. Gwendolyn claps and begins the rabbit’s story.

Then Gwendolyn has a turn at moving the rabbit. Winifred tells the next part of their tale.

They finish the show with a little bow. Mum turns off the lamp, and they take the screen inside.
