Edgar’s Rolling Drum
School Readers · Level 6
Edgar brings a small drum to music club. Lorna clears a space on the wide wooden table.

He lays the drum on its round side. It rolls slowly towards the far edge of the table.

Lorna puts out her hand and stops it. “That drum will not stay still,” she says.

Edgar stands the drum on its flat base. The drum is too tall to fit under the shelf.

Mr Moss finds a broad tray with a raised edge. He puts it on a lower, clear shelf.

Edgar lays the drum in the tray on its side. The raised edge stops it from rolling away.

Lorna checks that the tray sits flat. There is space to lift the drum out with both hands.

When club begins, Edgar takes out the drum. Now it has a safe place to rest after the music.
