The Adventure Trail Finale
Phase 10 · Book 5Focus sentence purposes and cumulative review

Beth and Fred join Mum for an adventure trail. Three picture clues wait beside a park map. One shows a boat, one a wooden foot and one a flag. “Where shall we begin?” asks Beth.

The boat clue leads to a shallow garden pond. A toy boat holds a little sealed bag. Mum lifts it out with a net. “Look! There is another clue!” calls Fred.

The clue shows a giant footprint beside a tree. They follow wooden foot shapes along a broad path. “Is there a giant here?” asks Beth. “No,” laughs Mum. “This giant wears wooden shoes.”

Beside the tree, they find a red flag and a riddle. Mum reads it aloud. “I have hands, but I cannot clap. What am I?” Fred looks at his hands and frowns.

Beth points to the clock above the park shelter. “A clock has hands!” she says. They walk to the shelter together. A picnic basket waits beneath the clock.

They open the basket and find sandwiches and a medal each. “We solved the whole trail,” says Fred. “What helped us most?” asks Mum. “Working together!” Beth and Fred answer at once.
