The Library Display
School Readers · Level 11
Henry and Ruby help make a display in the school library. They choose books about the sea. Ruby puts one book upright on the table. It falls flat when she lets go.

Henry tries a thicker book behind it. The first book stays up for a moment. Then both books slide down. “We need something that will hold them,” says Ruby.

They ask the librarian, Mrs Reed. She shows them a box of book stands. “Try these,” she says. “Put the bottom of each book behind the little edge.”

Ruby sets a stand on the table. Henry places a book on it. This time, the book stays upright. They use more stands for the other books.

A student stops to look at the display. “I can see all the covers now,” he says. He chooses a book about whales. Ruby leaves a space where it stood.

Henry puts another sea book in the empty stand. “The display still looks good,” says Ruby. Mrs Reed comes to see it. “And people can find a book to read,” she says.
